April Fool’s Day Pranks to Play on Your Dog

Happy April Fool’s Day! This humorous holiday offers a great chance to play a few silly pranks on friends, family members, and co-workers. You may also be able to play a joke or two on your canine buddy! Here, a Tipp City, OH vet lists some pranks you can play on Fido that are cute, and possibly even helpful!

Change your ringtone to a new sound, one that will get Fido’s attention, such as a cat meowing. Fido’s reaction may be absolutely hilarious!

Does Fido run and hide when he hears the word Bath? Have your pooch jump into the tub. Then, just give him a yummy treat, and let him go. If you keep doing this, your pet may suddenly become much more open about the thought of getting bathed!

Does Fido have a begging habit? Give your pet a carrot instead of that piece of bacon he’s eyeing. This is also better for his health!

Fido may never figure out his elusive prey, but it’s always cute to watch him trying to catch that mysterious red dot. Take time to play with your pup every day. This is a great way to keep Fido active and entertained, and can be fun for you, too!

Get a long tube, like the cardboard tube from wrapping paper or a paper towel roll, and speak through it, so it distorts your voice. Your canine buddy’s reaction may be hilarious!

Fido will never stop falling for this one! When you are playing fetch with your pet, pretend to throw the ball, but then hide it behind your back. Your pooch may very well race off in the direction he thinks the ball went, only to soon return with that adorable confused look dogs get.

Drape a blanket over yourself, and make silly noises. Fido might not actually be fooled by this one, but he may get adorably excited.

While it can be cute to pull a fast one on your pooch, don’t go overboard. Keep doggy pranks lighthearted and harmless. If Fido has issues with anxiety or aggression, skip the practical jokes, and just focus on giving him some TLC.
