Fido’s Plans for 2019

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year! Today, many of us are reflecting back on the past year, and setting goals for the new one. Our canine pals may also have a few things on the agenda for 2019! Read on as a Tipp City, OH vet discusses some things your dog will do this year.

Get Fit

Fitness is a very common New Year’s goal with people, and it may be popular with our furry friends as well. Lots of walks and playtime are on Fido’s to-do list for 2019!

Show Appreciation

Dogs are really grateful for the love and care we give them. Fido will show his appreciation in some very adorable ways, like tail wags, happy dances, and doggy smooches.

Excel At Work

Dogs have had many jobs over the centuries. They’ve been guardians, hunting buddies, guide dogs, trackers, and rescue dogs, to name a few. Your canine friend may have smaller duties, such as letting you know when the doorbell rings, leaving fur on your sofa, and, of course, being supportive and cuddly when you are down.

Eat Well

If there’s one thing we know about dogs, it’s that they love food. Fido will do his best to make sure he’s getting all the nutrition he needs . . . and then some. Offer your pooch premium food and treats, but don’t overindulge him.

Get Plenty Of Rest

While Fluffy may be the official sleeping champion among our animal companions, Fido is no slouch, either. Dogs spend about half their time snoozing. (For the record, our canine buddies do dream. No one is sure what they dream of, but we suspect squirrel, walks, and treats are involved.)

Learn Something New

Did you know that many dogs actually like learning? Picking up new tricks can help Fido feel more confident. It can also help strengthen his bond with you, and reduce tension between you. If your pooch already knows basic doggy commands, like Sit , Stay , Heel , and Lay Down , move on to advanced training. Or, show him some cute tricks, like Shake Paw or Roll Over .

Explore

Dogs have a very strong sense of adventure, and love to explore new places. Indulge your pup by taking him to a doggy park or exploring a new trail.
