Dog Party Day

There’s a special doggy holiday coming up that has tails wagging all over the country. June 21 ^st is Dog Party Day! While you don’t need a reason to celebrate your canine buddy, this is a great time to give Fido some extra attention, and score lots of puppy smooches and happy dances. A Tipp City, OH vet tells you how to throw the perfect dog party below.

It’s really good for dogs to be able to play and interact with other pooches. Invite friends and family members with gentle, well-behaved dogs over. If you or anyone you know has a puppy, this will also be helpful for socializing the little guy. Just make sure that your furry visitors are up to date on their vaccines and parasite control.

This type of occasion is perfect for a potluck scenario! Fire up the grill, and have your human guests bring appetizers, desserts, or sides. Set out lots of yummy treats for your canine friends. Regular store-bought snacks are fine, but you can also make your own. Here’s an easy one: pour some water or sodium-free broth over kibble, shredded meat, broken dog treats, or even cut-up cocktail wieners, and freeze overnight.

Games can liven up any gathering. This is also true for dog parties! Set out lots of toys for Fido’s pals to play with. Make sure you’ve got more than enough playthings: you don’t want your guests bickering over the rope toy! If you want to go all-out, get an automated ball launcher. You can also set out a sprinkler or kiddie pool for the pups to cool off in. (Note: if you get a sprinkler, we recommend getting a filter for your hose.)

It may be going a bit too far to request that your four-legged pals be freshly bathed before they come over. However, Fido’s buddies should be wearing ID tags. Of course, since no dog party is complete without adorable photos, your furry guests are welcome to ‘dress up’ with bandanas or bow ties around their necks.
