July 11 th is American Pet Photo Day! Pet photos have definitely been a huge comfort this year. You just can never have too many adorable pictures of your furry best friend! However, Fluffy and Fido don’t always make the most cooperative models. Read on as a local Tipp City, OH vet offers some tips on taking great pet photos.
You can find lots of apps that were made specifically for taking pet photos on both the Apple store and Google play. Experiment with a few different ones. Some make noises that capture pets’ attention, while others get rid of red eye.
Most people take photos of pets from above. This can be cute, but why not try something different? Kneel or lie down, and snap photos from your pet’s eye level.
Try to schedule your pet’s photo shoot for sunrise or sunset. At these times, the light often has a golden quality that can make for great photos.
Natural light is almost always better for taking pet photos. If you have a dog, bring Fido outdoors for his photo shoot. As for Fluffy, snap her picture in a room with lots of windows on a sunny day.
Play around with props and backgrounds. Put a hat or bandana on Fido, or stage your bunny at a little table. Just be sure to put safety first! Don’t use anything that your pet may try to eat or play with, and never leave your furry friend unattended with their props.
Ideally, you want to choose a background that contrasts with your pet’s fur. For instance, if your kitty has dark fur, don’t take her picture on a black sofa.
Often, the best pet photos are the ones that let pets’ individual personalities shine through. Snap a photo of Fido with his nemesis, the vacuum cleaner, or take a picture of Fluffy yelling at you to feed her right meow !
Most modern smartphones have amazing cameras. Explore different settings and options, and play around with effects and cropping. You can also try out some photo editing apps. Fluffy may look adorable as a pencil sketch, while Fido may look cute as a watercolor.
