Animal Advocacy Day

April 15, 2022
April 30th is Animal Advocacy Day! If you’re reading this, it’s probably safe to say that you love and respect our animal companions, as we all do. This is a great holiday to get involved with! A local Tipp City, OH vet lists some ways to do that below.

Adopt

The best way to help animals? Adopt one! If you have the time, funds, and space for a new pet, you may want to consider heading to the shelter. Of course, this is a big commitment, so be sure to think carefully first.

Ramp Up Your Pet Care

Many loving pet owners are unaware of certain aspects of their pets’ health and care needs. Do some research, and see if there is anything in your furry pal’s care regimen that could be improved. This could be as small as vowing to spend more time playing with Fluffy or taking Fido to the park.

Support Animal Welfare Organizations

There are hundreds of organizations out there working hard to make things better for animals. They are always in need of help. Whether it’s monetary donations, food, or other supplies, any little bit helps. You can go with some of the larger ones, such as the ASPCA or the Humane Society, or picking something smaller and more local. If you want to help the animals of Ukraine, look into larger overseas ones, such as IFAW or Humane Society International.

Volunteer/Foster

If you want to really get involved, consider volunteering. You can really make a difference just by giving up some free time! Fostering is also a possibility. While not for everyone, it may not be as challenging as you’d think. Even pocket pets, like hamsters and Guinea pigs, need foster care sometimes.

Purchase Humane Products

Take a look at the brands you use, and consider switching to ones that use sustainable, eco-friendly ingredients. This is something you can apply to anything from food to cosmetics to lawn and garden supplies.

Get Involved

There are always new pieces of legislation coming forward that are aimed at helping animals. You can learn about some of them at the ASPCA’s advocacy center. You will likely also find smaller local ones, which you may be able to support in a more hands-on way. Do you have questions about your pet’s health or care?
