June 24th is Take Your Dog To Work Day! Our canine buddies have been working for us for as long as 30,000 years! Many pups actually have real jobs, such as being a therapy dog or service dog. However, it’s important to remember that pet pooches have duties, too. A Tipp City, OH vet lists some of Fido’s favorite ones below.
Herder
This is one of Fido’s first jobs. Herding instincts are still very much ingrained in some breeds. In fact, your canine pal may try to herd you!
Explorer
Fido definitely has a taste for adventure, and he loves checking out new places. Indulge your furry friend’s lust for life, and take him to parks and trails.
Vacuum Cleaner
One rule about living with dogs? Any food you drop near Fido will quickly get snapped up. (Be super careful when eating foods that aren’t safe for pups, such as grapes.)
Therapist
No surprises here. Who hasn’t been comforted by Fido’s friendly smooches or tail wags on a bad day? Case in point!
Personal Trainer
Fido absolutely must get outdoors every day, both for sanitary purposes and for exercise. All those walks are good for you, too! And if you have a high-energy pooch that likes to run and hike, you’ve got a workout buddy who’s always willing to accompany you.
Comedian
Dogs are furry, panting bundles of joy that brighten our lives at every turn. They also provide us with live-in entertainment. If laughter really is the best medicine, Fido may be worth his weight in gold!
Security Guard
This may have been Fido’s earliest job, and he still excels at it today. Many brave canines have alerted their humans to dangers such as fires and intruders. Even tiny dogs, like Yorkies, tend to let their owners know there’s someone at the door.
Philosopher
We know, some pups aren’t much for deep thought, except perhaps when they’re pondering important doggy topics like bacon and squirrels. That said, Man’s Best Buddy is a bit of a guru in his own way. For instance, dogs are great at inspiring us to play, spend time with loved ones, and stop to smell the roses. (Fido is also adamant about promoting the benefits of naps, car rides, and belly rubs, but that’s another topic.)
